Introduction: The Article Virus

Created an exceptional article for distribution on the Internet? Why do webmasters really create articles? Articles provide a source of one-way text links to contribute towards search engine optimisation. Search engines are becoming cleverer than ever and can easily detect duplicated content.

Try submitting an article to numerous article directories, you will notice that within a few days the search engines will index the article, although the indexing time does differ between search engines. Although the article may get indexed in the search engines, it will usually not get registered as a link to your website, therefore being worthless towards search engine optimisation practices. Now why did this indexed webpage not get registered as a link to your website? The answer must be that it is duplicated content. On the big three, your article may not even get indexed. Google swears by it, you must have unique, good quality content to appear above your competitors.

Overcoming Duplicated Article Content

You know what the problem is, but is there a solution? It can’t be expressed anymore, you need to have good quality content that is unique to be a successful website on the Internet. Create a brilliant article and submit it to a small number of good quality article directories with high Google page rank. Ensure the article directories you submit to have their website indexed regularly…..I mean EVERY day. This ensures that your article will get indexed on that website, before someone steals the content and indexes it on their website. You’ll find that many smaller, lower ranked article directories will provide no value in your outgoing text link as these sites usually provide duplicated content. Remember – A website which provides duplicated website content is usually considered as unworthy for the Internet and therefore maybe classified as SPAM. Not only does the article directory displaying duplicate content have its rankings affected within the search engines, but so does yours if a link-back is placed within the article.

Tips for targeting Good Article Directories

  • Check the Google PageRank of the homepage you are submitting to, ensure it has a fair PageRank value compared to its competitor websites;
  • Goto Google, MSN and Yahoo and find out how many websites are linking to the potential article directory. Usually you should pick the one with the most links pointing to it;
  • Find out how many webpages are indexed for that website, this again can be done with Google, Yahoo and MSN. Usually you should pick the one with the most indexed webpages as the search engines are likely to visit that website more regularly that its competitors;
  • Find out what other articles are indexed with the potential article directory, make sure you choose an article directory with closely relating content towards your content. In other words, you should really choose specialise directories which exist on the Internet, e.g. if your article is todo with baby-care then you should submit that article to article directories dedicated towards baby-care. This will give your one-way link to your website much more value!
  • Ensure you submit your article to a directory which allows one-way text links to your website. The search engines cherish websites which receive one-way text links to them and enhances your rankings within the SERPs;
  • Finally, do not submit your article to a directory website which has been banned from the search engines. Banned websites are ones which are not indexed within the search engines, therefore posting your article content to these will have no value at all.

Conclusion: The Article Virus

You must be very careful with the articles which you produce, if they fall into the wrong websites then you have just wasted your time producing that particular article as it doesn’t have any value. Sticking to the popular websites and only submitting a single copy of your article to a good quality website is the best way for successful search engine optimisation techniques. Good luck with your article copywriting and hope your time isn’t wasted.
